Compare the best SIM Only mobile broadband deals
Like with mobile phone SIM only tariffs, mobile broadband SIM only deals are now starting to hit the market. The premise is the same, a rolling mobile broadband contract with only one month’s notice to cancel – the only catch is you’ll need to pay for the modem upfront, although this only costs around £20 these days.
SIM Only deals are a great way to test out mobile broadband without a long term commitment. Perhaps you started with Pay as you go broadband and are using it regularly enough to justify a monthly contract, but 18 months seems too big a commitment. SIM only mobile broadband is also good for students or regular movers as you can cancel your contract as soon as you move house at the end of term.

FAQ
3 Tips to get the best SIM Only mobile broadband deal
- Check the expected mobile broadband coverage in your area before making your purchase. We have links to the 3G and mobile broadband coverage checkers for all the providers.
- Consider how much you will really use your mobile broadband connection. Perhaps pay as you go mobile broadband will be better value for you than SIM Only, particularly if you’re only going to use your dongle up ot 3 or 4 days a month.
- Make sure the data allowance is large enough for your needs. If you plan to use your mobile broadband connection, to replace having a home broadband connection, you’ll probably need a larger data allowance. 3GB may be suitable for email, simple internet browsing and Facebook but services such as iPlayer, uploading photos to Flickr and sending large attachments will need a larger allowance, perhaps 5GB to be safe.
