Best Mobile Broadband with WiFi Hotspot Access

October 6th, 2009

Tariffs that include both mobile broadband and WiFi hotspot access are seen by some, including myself, as the best type of mobile broadband package. There are thousands of WiFi hotspots available in town centres, airports, coffee shops and pubs all over the country providing an additional blanket of coverage to help eliminate any mobile broadband blackspots.

Both O2 and T-Mobile offer mobile broadband deals that include WiFi hotspots, for both pay monthly and pay as you go tariffs.

The addition of WiFi hotspot access to a mobile broadband package is particularly beneficial if you are likely to use the service in a variety of locations, as WiFi access increases your chances of finding a reliable and fast connection. Mobile broadband coverage is often weak inside buildings, but WiFi is designed to be used indoors so they compliment each other well.

WiFi hotspots are now present in thousands of locations.  O2 partner with WiFi hotspot network The Cloud and BT Openzone to give you access to 6100 hotspots across the country.  The T-Mobile WiFi hotspot network covers airports and hotels.

For the last 6 years T-Mobile has most famously been the sole provider of WiFi hotspot access in Starbucks coffee shops. However BT Openzone will replace T-Mobile in Starbucks for at least the next 5 years, with a nationwide rollout beginning in April 2009. BT Openzone will allow O2 mobile broadband customers to access their Starbucks WiFi hotspots from this summer, so if you’re partial to a skinny caramel latte whilst browsing the web or checking your emails O2’s package may be the best mobile broadband tariff for you.
