What is a tablet computer?
You may be thinking, what exactly is a tablet computer, well to answer your question simply; it is a portable touch screen device, which can be connected to the internet. Or even to put it crudely, is a cross between a smart phone and a laptop computer.
How can I connect an iPad to the Internet?
The iPad is available with two main types of connectivity – one with both Wi-Fi with 3G and with Wifi alone. Wifi obviously works on your via your wireless broadband router and at places with WiFi hotspot connections such as coffee shops, although you’ll normally have to pay for access.
The beauty of 3G is that you can connect your iPad to the internet wherever you – assuming you have 3G coverage of course!
If you don’t want to pay the extra for the 3G version of the iPad you could use it in conjunction with a Mobile Wifi device such as 3′s Mifi, or Vodafone Mobile Wifi.
What’s so good about the Apple iPad?
The iPad doesn’t take as long as a laptop to load up and therefore is ideal for surfing the internet, and is the right size to take with you wherever you go, as it can be slipped into your bag easily.
If you’re the kind of person that really enjoys interactive entertainment, then the iPad may be what you are looking for, as it takes interactive entertainment to a whole new level. You can do so much on the iPad, such as surf the web, watch movies, play games, listen to music, and even read eBooks. The iPad has a massive number of apps, with new ones added daily.
The iPad has an impressive 9.7 inch screen, which is LED so maximises the quality of the movies you are watching, by showing it in exceptionally bright and vivid colours. The iPad is great for sitting on the couch and watching movies, although it may not be clear how you would sit with it, so it is worthwhile investing in a case that has a stand.
Like iPhone’s, the iPad uses Apple’s iOS operating system, which allows you to access the App Store. However the problem with this operating system is that it is unable to play flash player. This means that those of you who love surfing the net, you won’t be able to enjoy the full experience, as pages that require flash player won’t be loaded.
With the iPad you get a choice of how much storage you want, which obviously affects the price, you can get it with 16GB, 32GB or even 64GB. It is quite surprising though that the iPad doesn’t have a built in camera, although there is news that the iPad 2 will have this device.
The battery life is always something many people consider when buying any kind of electronic device. With the iPad it is claimed that the battery life while surfing the net using Wi-Fi would be 10 hours, although if you are watching movies or playing games with loads of graphics, this will deplete the battery faster. This would seem natural though, the more intensive the application, the more battery power it will require.
The iPad is quite pricey, compared to other tablet computers on the market, but it is widely accepted as the best – you get what you pay for.
